AISD Curriculum

The American International School/Dhaka recognizes that curriculum development is an evolutionary process which is updated as new discoveries are made about our own teaching and student learning, as well as in the research field of education. Consequently, the American International School/Dhaka has adopted eight theme-based standards as its curriculum framework and a "backwards design" approach to lesson and unit planning. AISD units, regardless of the division of the school include three primary components: (1)what we want students to understand, (2)how we will assess their learning and (3)our plans for instruction.

All teaching and learning units, lessons, assessments are identified under a specific Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 standard and leveled benchmark. The interdisciplinary nature of the standards and our teaching methodologies allow students an ongoing opportunity for inquiry and for teachers to provide examples of current and relevant connections in instruction.

Effective in 2007-08, AISD has been accorded "candidate school" status by the International Baccalaureate Organization's Primary Years Program. The school is also authorized to deliver the IB Diploma Program as well. The first cohort of IB Diploma students graduated in May 2008.
