PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION

AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL/DHAKA CONSTITUTION ARTICLE

I : Name of the organization The name of the organization shall be the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the American International School/Dhaka (AIS/D).

ARTICLE II : Purpose 1. To promote parental involvement and interest in the school. 2. To facilitate and develop extra-curricular programs. 3. To raise funds for student extra-curricular activities and events, or any other student activity that the members deem fit to fund. 4. To seek to create cultural awareness and harmony within the school community.

ARTICLE III : Principles 1. To work for the best interests of all children in the school in a completely non-partisan manner. 2. To be non-commercial. 3. To avoid unsolicited involvement in the professional work of the administration and of the teaching staff.

ARTICLE IV : Membership Membership is open to all parents/guardians of children attending the school and to the teaching and administrative staff.

ARTICLE V : By-laws The PTA of the AIS/D shall adopt By-laws as necessary for the proper and efficient operation of the organization. By-laws may be created, altered or replaced by a majority vote of the members present at any regular meeting.

ARTICLE VI : Governing Body The PTA of AIS/D shall be governed by an Executive Committee, the membership of which shall be determined in the manner set forth in the By-laws of this constitution. The terms, rules and authority of the Executive Committee will be set forth in the By-laws.

ARTICLE VII : Dissolution In the event of termination and dissolution, the assets of the PTA will be distributed to the School Board of AIS/D. In the event that AIS/D is also dissolving, the assets will be turned over to the Board to distribute in accordance with the Articles of Association of the School.

ARTICLE VIII : Amendment to the Constitution This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting of the PTA by a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting except that Articles II and III may not be amended in such a manner as to impair or alter the noncommercial, nonpartisan, supportive nature of the organization. Proposed amendments to the Constitution must be presented to the Secretary or to the President in writing at least one month prior to a regularly scheduled meeting. All members shall be notified of proposed amendments at least two weeks prior to the meeting at which the vote will be taken.
