Welcome to AIS/D!

The American International School/Dhaka (AIS/D) is an accredited, private, independent day school serving the educational needs of the international community in Dhaka. Located in Baridhara, a residential suburb approximately 10 Km from central Dhaka, the 4.5-acre campus serves as a center for a diverse and involved international school community.

Established in 1972, AIS/D is governed by a nine-member Board of Education, elected by the parents. The educational program includes a college preparatory curriculum supported by a comprehensive co-curriculum. AIS/D is typical of a top public suburban school in the United States. In addition, an international student body (over forty nationalities represented) and a diverse instructional program ensure that the school maintains its global perspective.

The school's mission statement proudly proclaims AIS/D’s commitment to creating Independent Learners and International Citizens. Our programs are designed to ensure that all of our students are: Included, Challenged and Successful. AIS/D is recognized as a community based school in South Asia and our mission is accomplished through the efforts of experienced and talented teachers. AIS/D teachers are exceptionally committed to their students. Our faculty offers a rich and varied curriculum with a full range of courses, including: Band, Choir, Drama, Digital Photography, Art, Physical Education, French, Spanish, ESL, and South Asian Studies. Teachers also provide an advisory program, integrated technology, Student Support Services, a required Senior Project, Advanced Placement courses and as of this year the International Baccalaureate Diploma program. Our students are also offered opportunities to grow and learn through an extensive sports and activities program. An essential feature at AIS/D is our school-wide commitment to service learning. In general, the school is the hub of the community, supporting learning opportunities for students and parents morning, noon, and night.

The AIS/D school community has much to be grateful for: a modern teaching campus, spacious physical education facilities, an exceptional faculty, a supportive parent community, and best of all a spirited and motivated student body.

We are always looking for thoughtful, compassionate and dynamic teachers willing to share in the lives of our students and the community that supports them. If you are such an individual, we look forward to hearing from and meeting you.

Sincerely,

Walter Plotkin, Superintendent
